The first season of Knight Rider came out on DVD, and at risk of incurring Chip Taylor’s disdain, I snatched it up. Last night I was watching the first episode with the commentary by Glen Larson and David Hasselhoff. This DVD set is worth getting just to listen to what an unmitigated asshole Glen Larson is. The man just sits there saying nasty things to Hasselhoff for an hour or two—“wow, that’s the only time I think you ever remembered your lines” and so forth. Finally Hasselhoff says (something to the effect of) “If I’m such a bad actor, how come we lasted a hundred episodes and I’m still working twenty years later?”
Anyway, it’s even better than the display of mutual contempt in the commentary on The Sum of All Fears, in which Tom Clancy says to the director after one scene, “I like that. It shows you actually leafed through my book at some point.”
