Erin brought over a DVD last night of
Dangerous Beauty, a lovely film set in 16th century Venice, which tells the story of a courtesan, drawn into the lifestyle in a fit of spite. She learns that it’s a rewarding life of education and worldly happiness, and the conclusion of the film is a wonderfully secular moral statement, which very much says yes to life. The cinematography is really beautiful, and Catherine McCormack is excellent in the lead role (not to mention very beautiful), but mostly it’s the great courtroom scene that makes the movie a winner. Sure to infuriate your Christian friends—
