A BSG nitpick

One thing missing on Battlestar Galactica that I would like to see more of is conflict between the colonists themselves. One of the worst things that Star Trek has bequeathed to the science fiction universe is this idea of whole planets where everybody gets along and identifies themselves by a planet-wide ethnicity. (It’s almost as bad as the notion of planet-wide identical ecologies—e.g., Vulcan is all deserts—which at least has the merit of some truth, when we look at Mars and so forth). Surely there’s some reason Capricans hate folks from Geminon or something like that. Heck, there’s got to be some reason for Capricans to hate each other. But that hasn’t surfaced at all on BSG yet.
