Dan Walters writes about the possibility of a convention being called by ballot initiative. I support this. It's obvious that any convention called today would be dominated not by statesmen, but by demagogues seeking to make their favorite giveaway programs legally permanent, but much of that has already been done. I find it hard to believe this state could be worse governed. And a new constitution would at least offer a chance for civic education for a people who know virtually nothing about political philosophy.
