The makers of "Pull My Finger," the iPhone app that makes flatulence noises, are threatening to sue the maker of iFart, another iPhone farting app.
Denver-based trademark attorney John Posthumus of Greenberg Traurig said the case has interesting facets that could make for lively arguments if the issue went to trial.
"When you say that phrase [i.e., "pull my finger"], it may be more likely to take you back to your junior high school days as opposed to thinking of a particular iPhone application," said Posthumus, who is not involved in the case. "But iPhone apps are a big business and I can see why a company would be interested in protecting a trademark."
Both sides are talking now in an effort to reach a settlement.
A delightful illustration of the monopolistic irrationality frequently caused by intellectual property rights. (From The Obscure Store).
